‘Oh, come on. Come on.’ Fox News host can’t deal when Dem claims Trump is ‘afraid’ (2024)

A Harris campaign surrogate’s attempt to dunk on former President Donald Trump earned an emphatic eye roll from Fox News anchor Martha MacCallum.

“Oh, come on. Come on.”

Records appeared to remain meaningless to the Democratic Party as even events that had happened one week prior were memory-holed to fit the agenda of the day. Such was the case Friday on “The Story With Martha MacCallum” when Colorado Rep. Jason Crow (D) joined the Fox News anchor with an attempt at scoring points on Trump’s remaining non-committal to a debate with Vice President Kamala Harris.

Bringing in Crow to speak on behalf of the presumptive Democratic Party nominee, MacCallum began, “Given the fact that there has been an upheaval on the Democrats’ ticket, does it seem fair that you would want to sort of say, ‘Okay, now we have a new situation. We’re gonna do this debate and that debate and these are the terms and let both sides hash them out?'”

Ignoring the fact that voters had had something of a say in making President Joe Biden the presumptive nominee before his disastrous debate with Trump, the congressman tried, “The last debate, Martha, happened when both candidates were not their confirmed nominee either. So what has changed is my question? I think the obvious answer is Donald Trump is afraid. He’s afraid of this change, he’s acting like it — listen, I’m a combat veteran. I know fear and fatigue when I see it and he’s acting tired and he’s acting afraid here.”

“You know, someone needs to wake him up, and I know he has a hard time staying awake — you know he fell asleep repeatedly at his own nominating convention and he fell asleep repeatedly at his own criminal trial,” claimed Crow as MacCallum could be seen rolling her eyes at the claim, “someone needs to wake him up and let him know the next generation of American leadership is here and it’s on.”

Even before her guest had finished speaking, the anchor was interjecting, “Oh, come on. Come on.”

What followed was Crow deflecting as MacCallum pressed on Harris committing to more than one debate, arguing on behalf of her network to get a chance to pit the candidates against one another.

Of course, unaddressed during the exchange was the fact that during the week prior, Democrats were trying to score points against Trump’s running mate, Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance, for holding off on agreeing to a debate with Harris that proved a prescient move.

“We don’t know who the Democrat nominee for Vice President is going to be, so we can’t lock in a date before their convention,” senior Trump campaign adviser Brian Hughes had said in a statement only days before Biden withdrew from his campaign and Harris supplanted him at the top of the ticket. “To do so would be unfair to Gavin Newsom, JB Pritzker, Gretchen Whitmer, or whoever Kamala Harris picks as her running mate.”

Immediately after speaking with Crow, MacCallum brought in Trump campaign senior adviser Alina Habba to provide the Republican take on the debates after she composed herself. “I’m literally at a loss, Martha. I was laughing while I listened to that for somebody to ever say that President Trump is afraid.”

“He’s not only not afraid,” she went on to say, “bring it on. And bring it on under American terms — not under CNN and your stations with your terms and mics off because you’re afraid.”

To say President Trump is afraid is laughable. After everything he’s faced, fear is not in his vocabulary. Bring it on.
